The story
It left America stock
“This car left the USA stock and it was built by the world. People build their cars at home, make them as perfect as possible, then go on a journey. I left imperfect.”
He bought the purple Challenger after seeing one in the car park of the grocery store he bagged at. He drove it out of America with two things added: a hammock and a roof box. Everything else on it was put there by somebody he met on the road.
“My car met people around the world that developed it. The car is a testament to humanity, to the beauty of different cultures. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists - all these different religions contributed to this car.”
What is on it, and where it came from
- PakistanTruck art down the side, and a pull-up bar welded onto the hitch - drawn on a notebook and fabricated from scratch in two days.
- MalaysiaA full shower. Rear seats out, 75 litres in the back pumped forward - 85 litres in total, so he and his girlfriend can wash on the road.
- KazakhstanThe lift kit, after the underside started going and the clutch broke. The roof bars are drilled into the rails here too.
- LaosThe soap and faucet on the back. The dips bar went on across Laos and Cambodia.
- On the roadTen litres of water in a PVC tube in the bumper, in the empty space they found while fixing something else - and two symmetrical gas stoves built into the hood, because he was lifting a camping stove onto the bonnet to cook every day anyway.
Asked what one detail a model of it would have to get right, he said the Pakistani truck art - “the moment I recognised the beauty of humanity the most”. It is on the clone.
